Yesterday my daughter came home from school and said that her teacher said Columbus was mean.
Oh?
Yes, that’s why people are taking down statues of him, added the teacher.
So, my question is, how old is the teacher and how the hell does she know who Columbus was? Is she certain that she wants to teach judgements in the class, because I thought they were focusing on teaching critical thinking. Ironically, they just had a guest speaker on bullying. How would you classify the teacher’s behavior when she’s bad-mouthing (not educating) Columbus without knowing him or researching him?
I posted this on FB and a teacher-friend of mine commented that they (teachers) are taught NOT to give their opinion, but rather the facts, so that the student’s can make up their own minds. I call that teaching independent thinking – why is that becoming less common?
So, are you wondering why I said that Columbus is stealing my daughter’s teacher’s life? Frankly, it’s for the same reason that another friend on FB often posts highly opinionated things, which I’m sure he knows nothing about. Or he says things like FB is evil- in his post on FB. As he tries to market himself on FB. Maybe if FB were free and providing a way for him to connect with others, then he’d not think FB was evil. Oh, let me try again. Maybe if someone wasn’t holding a gun to his head to use FB. Why isn’t it hard to complain about something that is free? It’s hard to listen to, and even uncomfortable.
Has Your Life Been Stolen?
Here’s the thing, you have to own your life if you want to be happy and have a better, fluid, experience. By fluid I mean a life of well-being, a life in which things are always working out for you and life is getting better with each passing day. A life in which you are in the flow. The opposite would be a life that feels constricted, perhaps by heavy bills or limited choices. For many, life seems to get worse, harder with each passing year – and they don’t think they see it just in themselves, but rather in life around them too. For example, do you think life has gone to hell in a hand-basket (what a weird cliché!) because Donald Trump is running for president? Are you cringing because Celebrity Apprentice’s star is running? Or do you see that Trump, Carson and Fiorina represent our country wanting some authenticity for a change? Do you think that a part of us (as a mass-consciousness) is waking up and saying ‘I want a leader who will lead? I don’t care if it’s politically incorrect. ‘ Because that would be a wonderful thing. So, are the glasses that you see through half full or…
Now it’s true that your life is connected to, but independent from, parts of life like politics or whatever is happening on the other side of the world (or the country or even your house). This is what I’d call your outer world versus reality. Your outer world has to do with your own personal life, your own personal experiences. Reality is the rest of the world that can, and does, affect you to varying degrees. In other words, Columbus may have given you the day off yesterday (why didn’t he give my daughter the day off?), so that reality affected you in a positive way, but otherwise, you don’t know Columbus. Or are you really old? Vampire-old?
Consumption: Carbage & Vibratory-garbage
This morning I was hungry and I walked right by Panera. I don’t consider what they have to be food (sorry Panera) in the sense that their food strikes me as– what I heard Dr. Oz call– carbage. That’s empty carbohydrates that don’t offer any real nutrition, like garbage. For example, one of my favorite treats is French fries, but they are basically carbage because they provide salt, fat and some carbohydrates. Very little to no vitamins, nutrients, protein… (But they taste so good! Can I make it cheese-fries to add protein? No, please don’t point out that it adds fat.)
We live in dangerous times when you consider all the carbage trying to get you to buy it and eat it. Similar to a blood-sucking vampire, those nasty carbage foods out there are waiting for you (calling me, especially at night) to come so that (opposite to a vampires) you’ll sink your teeth into them.
But it’s not just carbage that you need to look out for because those vamps they come in different forms. They also come in emotional vibrational-garbage. Similar to carbage, they are empty or negative energy “calories”, if you will, which will make you energetically fatty with negative vibes. If you’ll consider that you are what you eat physically, emotionally and mentally then this will make sense. This is why parents used to say that television wotted your brain- do they still say that? Or do they say it about games on the iPad?
Well, I don’t know that I can agree or disagree with this (TV or computer games) argument, but the same is true of your energy. Are you consumed with negative thoughts and emotions? Negative energies? Are you wasting your energy with vibrational-garbage such that you are busy hating, speaking against or fighting Columbus or anything else in your outer world that has little to no effect on your world?
People who are in the flow tend to sense that all will be well because they make choices that are beneficial for themselves. They have an easier time not eating French fries (I’m working on it!) and they tend to choose to connect to uplifting and higher vibrating energies. That’s not to say that they don’t have something disparaging to say about someone or something in life, but the point is that they are true to themselves. They own their lives, so a negative thought, feeling or energy is appropriate because it pertains to their experience. They are focused on their lives, their experience and themselves. No one has stolen their experience, hijacked their lives.
You are free to hate Columbus, and if that’s what you choose, then perhaps you’ll have someone to blame for everything in your life (be careful tho, you can’t blame him for discovering America – America was named after the man that discovered it first, otherwise we might not live in America but rather Columbia – which would be confusing, given that the name is being used by the country Columbia. Columbus was just given credit, stealing it from Americo Vespucio).
Hate him if you will, but you aren’t going to change Columbus, so I’m not sure how your life will ever get better. Hijack it back?
