What makes a great elevator pitch?
You work at your entrepreneurial business all of the time.
It’s ironic, isn’t it? You work 10 hours a day if you are lucky, but you don’t know how to talk about your business. You might find yourself tongue-tied or you don’t know how to describe what you do.
You certainly aren’t alone! As the co-owner of a marketing firm, I would with entrepreneurs all of the time who know that they are good at what they do, but don’t know how to express it. Because you do so many things, you might be the type whose all over the place in trying to describe your offerings.
A potential client sees things completely differently. They don’t know or understand any of the amazing things you do or offer, so there’s a huge gap there. This gets a lot of entrepreneurs trying to explain what they do in such a way to cast a large net that will encompass everything they have to offer.
Now, add to this the fact that you are supposed to have your tag line, or your slogan, your elevator pitch, mission statement, USP and all of your social media and marketing in place… and it can be overwhelming!
Yes, this creates confusion and frustration.
Let’s make it simple, but powerful for you. The simpler you go, the easier it is for people to grasp. The truth is that you’ve probably noticed that the more you explain about what you do, the more people get confused or check out!
Simply put, I want you to think about your business. Like most entrepreneurs, there is a vast skill set and many things you do. There’s who you –be- and what your vision is. Look at what you, as a person, are most into – what you are dedicated to, passionate about, what your purpose is.
When you look at all of these things, common strings start to emerge. Look at 2 keys now: who you are and what you love doing. Sound to simple?
Tapping into that “thread” that touches who you are and what you love doing more deeply, then you can deliver a powerful, larger vision of what you do, while being simple to comprehend.
For example: I’m Kalyn, the ‘how to girl’. I help my business clients understand how to bring their strength out so that they can attract clients. It’s simple to understand, and yet it lets you know that I help clients with branding and marketing so that they enjoy more success.
Simple can be quite powerful. Bridging between everything you do and know to connect with a prospective customer or client who doesn’t know anything about your business is quite important. Include who you are and what you love doing so that you can express yourself as the spiritual entrepreneur – who attracts clients effortlessly!
